About This Role

Job Purpose

Since its official release in October 2019, Autify has been implemented by numerous clients, and our client base is continuing to grow. While we provide all the essential functions required in a test automation platform, we continue to receive requests for new functions and improvements. Autify is working on growing the product further by adding new features. For this reason, we are expanding our engineering team to develop further and improve Autify’s highly reliable test execution mechanism.

We are looking for a senior engineer to join our team.

You will mainly be responsible for the Japanese market requirement focused on developing and improving our new generation of AI platform products.
You will also examine bug reports from customers, work on fixing them, and apply the findings when improving the core engine and architecture of the product.

Responsibilities

Work with other engineers, designers, and product leads to implement various features while considering performance, security, and reliability.
Investigate and solve issues that occur in specific browsers and applications
Web application development using Ruby on Rails and TypeScript
Facilitate future development by continually improving the existing systems architecture, code quality, CI/CD pipeline, etc.
Work with other teams to improve our E2E test automation product built with Appium, Selenium, Webdriver, etc.
Participate in incident handling and on-call rotations

Required Qualifications

Over five years of experience in web development specializing in backend and some experience in frontend languages/frameworks.
Experience in developing backend with Typescript on Node.js
Experience with developing and packaging frontend multi-environment applications using Typescript and React on Electron
Experience in infrastructure with Docker, AWS, GCP or Microsoft Azure.
Modern development experience with Agile or Scrum.
Experience with test automation with Selenium or Playwright.
Ability to communicate and work in English
Until a Visa can be issued, being able to work from your own country with some overlap with Japanese business hours.

Nice-to-Have

Alternative experience in other BE languages and tech stacks like Rails, Ruby, Go or Python
Experience in contributing to Open Source projects in Webdrivers or Chrome extensions.
Proficient in the process of analyzing, hypothesizing, and testing
Experience in E2E test automation with Selenium and Appium
Experience in interviewing or directly interacting with customers and users

Selection Process

1. Submission of online coding test (take-home)
2. Submission of technical assignment (take-home)
3. Technical interview (60mins)
4. HR & Manager interview (90mins)

Note:

We will request to provide references after the final interview.
The interview steps might change depending on the hiring status in our pipeline.
We can arrange casual interviews before the coding test upon the candidate's request. (Subject to availability of both parties)

Japanese Language Policy
Autify doesn’t require Japanese skills for engineers. All oral and written communications (including slack and all documentation) is in English, so there’s no need for engineers to speak Japanese.
Visa Sponsorship
Autify’s flexible when it comes to helping you get a visa. They’re willing to hire people currently living overseas and sponsor your visa (as long as you fulfill the Japanese visa eligibility requirements). Autify also allows working from abroad while waiting for your visa to be approved.

They’re even open to having people continue to work remotely from outside of Japan longer-term as long as you can be available during normal business hours in the JST time zone.

Remote Work
Autify is working 100% remotely currently, so they don’t require members to live in Tokyo, if you are able to relocate to Japan. They also have quarterly in-person meetings in Tokyo but it’s not mandatory to commute to Tokyo once every three months. You can also join remotely.

Note: We welcome remote work from other countries as long as you can work during the JST time zone. Those living outside of Japan will remotely join quarterly in-person meetings.
Work style
Work hours: Full flex time (No Core Time!)

Autify allows their members to choose their own hours as long as they average 8 hours a day each month. There may be times when you’re expected to join meetings and you may need to be online during the JST time zone, but otherwise work hours are flexible.
