ListenField is a Precision AgTech startup that runs the largest digital farming community in the world. They aim to provide a predictive modeling platform for driving precision agriculture for the world.

ListenField’s API ecosystem can bring together data from various sources, such as satellites, weather stations, and in-field devices. Its combination of AI and crop modeling with phenology and genotype selection “has the potential to produce crops with superior quality characteristics in terms, for example, of sweetness, protein content.

Founded in 2017 by two researchers who wanted to improve agriculture through precision technology, ListenField has been trying to build a bridge between scientific projects and real world farming. The company is based in Japan (Nagoya), but they have offices in both Japan and Thailand.

ListenField values imaginative technological solutions to agricultural problems as well as innovation. They have a diverse team both in terms of cultures and ideas.

Japanese Language Policy
Like most companies operating in Japan, it would be helpful to know some Japanese, but the team uses English day-to-day so Japanese skills are not required.
Visa Sponsorship
We don't sponsor visas for candidates living outside of Japan currently.
Paid Leave
ListenField’s PTO policy consists of annual paid leave following Japanese labor law.

The first year an employee joins, they’ll receive ten PTO days, plus Saturdays and Sundays and all Japanese public holidays off.

Each year the number of PTO days they’re granted will increase by one (e.g. 11 days granted in year 2) up to a maximum pursuant with Japan’s labor laws.

Remote Work
ListenField allows full remote work from anywhere in Japan (or in Thailand if you have a Thai visa). They already worked remotely before COVID-19 and they intend to continue doing so even if the pandemic subsides.

They may have occasional in-person meetings, but only once or twice per year. This is a unique perk since it means there are no geographic restrictions on where you live as long as it’s somewhere in Japan or Thailand.
Work style
ListenField is primarily focused on output rather than time spent, so they’re flexible about working hours.

Their Japan members may sometimes work directly with people in their Thailand office so they may have some meetings at night (e.g. 6:00 or 7:00PM) to accommodate this, but employees can generally work the hours that suit them best.

They don’t have specific core hours, and use a “discretionary labor system”.
