Cooori creates an artificial intelligence-driven educational platform that focuses on efficiency. Our first product using the platform is an English language learning product aimed at improving TOEIC scores for employees of companies.

As Cooori founder Dr. Arnar Jensson continued to research and experiment with AI-based language learning technology, he decided that his mission was to build an efficient language learning system to help people and contribute to society. Educated in Japan, Germany, and Russia, co-founder Dr. Eythor Eyjolfsson is a fluent linguist in seven languages, and he has brought passion and expertise to Cooori, as he has over 30 years of experience building businesses in Japan and elsewhere.

Cooori has also partnered with Toyota Technological Institute of Chicago in order to develop increasingly advanced AI technologies. Dr. Sadaoki Furui, professor emeritus of the Tokyo Institute of Technology and a recipient of the Japan Cultural Merit Award, has had a profound impact on Arnar Jensson’s life as an engineer and businessman. In 2017, Cooori began working with the Toyota Technological Institute at Chicago in the field of technology development for AI systems. The partnership with the university, which is at the leading edge of the field of information technology, will challenge the development of more advanced AI.

Japanese Language Policy
It is not a requirement to speak Japanese for developers at Cooori, although it is certainly a plus. Some positions such as Sales require Japanese; however, everyone in the company is able to speak English.
Paid Leave
- Weekends (Saturday and Sunday), Japanese national holidays, New Year’s holiday
- 26 days paid vacation days including March 30th which is Cooori’s foundation day.

Engineer Interview Process

(1) Document screening

We will contact you if you are able to proceed to the interview stage.

(2) Interview

We will set up around 5 interviews. Depending on the situation, some of the interviews will be online or on-site.
- The first interview is an overall technical check with the lead software engineer. (online) We ask candidates to complete a small project before moving on to the second interview.
- The second interview involves explaining the project, and getting feedback on the assignment. (online)
- The third interview is a casual meeting with the dev team members. (online or on-site depending on the situation)
- The fourth interview is a discussion with the founder who is the CTO / PM. (online or on-site depending on the situation)
- The fifth interview is a short chat with the CEO. (usually online)

- Our culture could be described as Scandinavian, meaning we rarely work overtime and instead we get things done during work hours.
- We like vacations and encourage employees to take advantage of them in order to maintain fresh minds.
- We are proud to foster a workplace free from discrimination. We strongly believe that a diversity of experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds lead to a better environment for our employees and a better product for our users.
- Once COVID-19 is over we will allow some remote work. The policy has not been fully defined, as of December 2020.
Tech Stack
We are developing a single page application built with React and TypeScript while the backend API is implemented with the Django framework. Our backend stack is based on PostgreSQL, Redis and runs on AWS.

- We emphasize making development decisions using analytics.
